Apple has unveiled the MacBook Neo, the company’s most affordable laptop in India. Positioned as an accessible entry point into the Mac ecosystem, the new MacBook marks a significant shift in Apple’s strategy, bringing premium design and performance to a breakthrough price point typically dominated by Windows PCs and Chromebooks.

The MacBook Neo features a durable aluminum enclosure with soft, rounded corners, weighing just 1.23 kg, making it highly portable for everyday use. Apple has introduced the device in four distinct colorways: blush, indigo, silver, and a fresh new citrus. The lighter shades extend to the keyboard and default system wallpapers, creating a unified aesthetic throughout.

The laptop sports a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2408×1506 pixels, delivering 500 nits of brightness and support for 1 billion colors. The display includes an anti-reflective coating designed to improve visibility across various lighting environments. Apple claims the display is both brighter and higher in resolution than most PC laptops in this price range.
For thermal management, the MacBook Neo employs a fanless cooling architecture, ensuring completely silent operation during use.
Chip and Performance
Breaking from tradition, the MacBook Neo is powered by the A18 Pro chip, marking the first time Apple has used an iPhone-class processor in a MacBook. The chip features a 6-core CPU with 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine dedicated to handling on-device AI workloads.
According to Apple, the A18 Pro delivers up to 50 percent faster performance for everyday tasks such as web browsing, streaming content, and working on documents compared to bestselling PC laptops with Intel Core Ultra 5 processors. For on-device AI workloads, the chip offers up to three times faster performance, while photo editing tasks run up to twice as fast.
The device comes with 8GB of unified memory and is available in two storage configurations: 256GB and 512GB. While the memory cannot be upgraded, Apple states the configuration is sufficient for typical daily use and keeps the Neo positioned below the MacBook Air in the lineup.
Apple Intelligence Integration
The MacBook Neo runs macOS Tahoe and supports Apple Intelligence features, including writing tools and live translation. The Neural Engine enables the device to handle AI-powered tasks locally, enhancing privacy and performance for features like photo restoration, style transfer, and automated content generation.
Additionally, the laptop includes Continuity features that allow seamless integration with iPhone, including iPhone Mirroring and Universal Clipboard functionality.
Camera, Audio, and Input
For video calls, the MacBook Neo is equipped with a 1080p FaceTime HD camera with optimized image processing. Audio input is handled by a dual-microphone array equipped with directional beamforming technology to isolate the user’s voice and reduce background noise.
Audio output is provided by dual side-firing speakers positioned on the front sides of the device, supporting Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos for an immersive listening experience.
The device features Apple’s Magic Keyboard and a large Multi-Touch trackpad for navigation. The 512GB configuration also includes Touch ID for biometric authentication and Apple Pay authorization.
Connectivity and Battery Life
The MacBook Neo includes two USB-C ports for charging, peripheral connectivity, and external display output. The left port supports USB 3 speeds, while the right port operates at USB 2 speeds. External display connectivity is supported only on the left USB 3 port. Additionally, the device features a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio devices.
For wireless connectivity, the laptop supports Wi-Fi 6E and the newly implemented Bluetooth 6 standard, ensuring fast and reliable connections.
Powered by the energy-efficient A18 Pro chip, the MacBook Neo delivers up to 16 hours of battery life on a single charge, suitable for all-day use. The device comes with a 20-watt charger in the box.
Market Positioning
At Rs. 69,900, the MacBook Neo enters one of the most competitive segments of the laptop market, where devices from HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, and Acer dominate. Many models in this range now ship with Intel Core Ultra or AMD Ryzen AI processors, often paired with 16GB of RAM. Apple is positioning the Neo as a premium alternative focused on ecosystem integration, build quality, and software optimization rather than raw specifications.
The device is aimed primarily at students, first-time Mac buyers, and budget-conscious consumers who want access to macOS without the premium pricing of the MacBook Air or Pro models.
